ADULT EDUCATION - GED, ESL, Adult Diploma

 (Western Connecticut Regional Adult and Continuing Education)
Serving the towns of:  Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Redding and Ridgefield

The following courses are available free of charge.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) Skill Program -
Instruction in Adult Basic Education is designed for adults who are unable to read, write, and compute sufficiently well to meet the requirements of adult life and for adults who lack mastery of basic educational skills that will enable them to function effectively in society. 

General Education Development Program (GED)
New classes begin each September, December and March.  You must register in person.  WERACE offers free GED test preparation classes for individuals who want to study for the examination. WERACE also gives free practice tests to interested individuals each Monday - Thursday evening at 6:00 pm at Danbury High School when classes are in session. 


Adult High School Credit Diploma Program (CDP)
The Adult High School Credit Diploma Program (CDP) is a prescribed plan, process, and structure for 
earning academic credits to complete high school.  Students earning the required number of credits are awarded a local high school diploma from the regional program.   Classes begin February 10


English As A Second Language Program (ESL)
ESL instruction is designed for adults who have limited proficiency in the English language or whose 
native language is not English.  Instructional emphasis on listening and speaking.  Literacy skills (reading and writing) are also taught in this program.  Instruction is provided in English at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Classes begin February 19

Citizenship
The Citizenship program provides classroom instruction for foreign-born adults who wish to become 
United States citizens. The course prepares students to pursue citizenship through the prescribed 
Immigration and Naturalization Service process. Instruction is given in English; applicants need to be proficient in English for this course.  Classes start in January
