Beginner Knitting Class—(Ages 18 & Up)

Make time for yourself and learn to knit!  If you’ve always wanted to knit, but didn’t know where to start, or need to brush up the basics, this course is for you!  Learn to cast on, knit, purl and more, creating a fashionable project to start!  Knitting is a great hobby that can be transported with you.  Knit at sports events, waiting rooms, etc. using snippets of time!  Learn about different fibers, try out different types and sizes of needles, and more!  Crochet basics will also be taught.  Students need to bring in a skein of bulky-weight yarn of their choice (such as Lion Wool-Ease Thick N Quick) and US size 11, 13 or 15 knitting needles to start..

Intermediate Knitting Circle—(Ages 18 & Up)

For those who can cast on and knit garter stitch, and are ready to build more skills (or have completed the beginner course).  Several projects will be created starting with an “oh so cute” hat that can be made in sizes from children to adults, as well as a seamless project “knitting in the round” on circular needles.  In this comprehensive, step-by-step, fun class, you will learn to read patterns, check gauge, master more difficult stitches (including cables) and more!  Students need to bring in size 10 (longer length preferable) straight needles and one skein (150 yards) of worsted weight yarn of their choice to start.  Other materials needed will be discussed in class.  Students can also bring independent projects for help as well.

Sewing Machine Basics

Do you have a sewing machine collecting dust in a closet?  Learn how to use it correctly, what each part does, how to troubleshoot common problems, plus tips for easier threading and smoother stitches.  You will become comfortable with your sewing machine and discover how to use its best features and attachments.  Students should bring their sewing machine with manual, accessories, needles, and bobbins to each class.  The instructor will provide general sewing supplies (thread, pins, scrap fabric) for practice.  Limited to 8 students.

Easy Mending and Alteration Techniques

Learn the right way to sew on buttons, how to replace a pocket lining, lengthen or shorten skirts', dresses and pants, and simple methods to patch holes in socks and sweaters.  Bring 1 or 2 items from your “mending basket” and learn these money-saving skills to keep your clothes looking great and lasting longer.  Instructor will provide general sewing supplies (thread, pins, scrap fabric) for practice.  Students should bring their own sewing machine with manual to  each class.  Limited to 8 students.

Learn to Sew Skirts

Learn to sew or improve your sewing skills.  It’s easy and fun to sew a custom skirt.  Discover how to measure for size, choose and cut fabric, read a pattern, sew seams, install a zipper, and sew a hem.  Take the first step toward designing your own wardrobe!  Students should bring their own sewing machine with manual to each class. Instructor will provide customized pattern (no charge) and shopping list to each student during first class.     Limited to 8 students.
