GARDENING INDOORS FOR HAPPY HOUSEPLANTS

Cooler temperatures will be here before you know it and gardening outside will have to wait.  Why not some indoor gardening?  We’re talking houseplants!  Do you have a hard time with indoor plants?  Already a houseplant enthusiast?  Expand your knowledge and know how.  We will cover all sorts of houseplant situations and offer advice on how to keep your houseplants happy, what plants to choose (and what to avoid), where to place them, and how to maintain and overwinter indoor potted plants.  From common houseplants to orchids, African violets, and everything in between, we’ll tackle the different challenges of indoor gardening and learn how to make your houseplants work for you!

WEEDS:  IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL OF COMMON WEEDS

Nuisance plants are growing “like weeds” by late summer to produce seeds or nourish their roots for the following year.  Learn the identification of several of the most common weeds and invasive plants in Connecticut.  Simple, safe control methods will be included.  Taught by an Advanced Master Gardener and Sierra Club CT newsletter contributor.

COOL-SEASON VEGETABLE GARDENING

Extend the vegetable growing season into fall or all winter long.  Learn which cool-season vegetables can be planted now and methods to keep them growing.  Fall garden cleanup will also be discussed.  Taught by an Advanced Master Gardener and Sierra Club CT newsletter contributor.  Participants receive a vegetable seedling to plant at home.  No gardening experience required

DESIGNING A HOME LANDSCAPE

Fall is the perfect time to evaluate and design home landscapes.  Create a sketch for home use.  Bring photos of your landscape challenges for discussion of possible solutions.  Taught by an Advanced Master Gardener and Sierra Club CT newsletter contributor.   Please bring a pencil, a ruler and an eraser.
